Using Satellite Imagery and Aerial Orthophotos for the Multi-Decade Monitoring of Subalpine Norway Spruce Stands Changes in Gorce National Park, Poland

چکیده

In the last 50 years, forest disturbances, caused mainly by insect outbreaks and windstorms, had a significant impact on subalpine Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.) stands across Europe. The high intensity of these factors often led to complete dieback existing stands, as in Gorce National Park (Southern Poland). aim this study was monitor land cover changes their dynamics NP years 1977–2020 (43 years), with use archival remote sensing data. area divided into two subareas: A—the Kudłoń B—the Jaworzyna range. Changes were tracked six defined classes, based available aerial orthophotos Landsat (NASA) imagery, help authors’ photointerpretation key. results showed that almost 50% old-growth died analyzed time period (50.9% subarea A; 48.8% B). However, young forests appeared 17% (20.7% 14.2% A B, respectively). different for subareas; processes weakened at end period, whereas B they maintained intensity. process is still occurring NP, but it does not result disappearance whole ecosystem rather generational change, due emerging forests.

The Number and Composition of Snags in the Pine-Spruce Stands of the Bialowieza National Park, Poland

This paper documents data on standing dead trees (snags) in the pine-spruce (Norway spruce Picea abies, Scots pine Pinus sylvestris) natural stand in Bialowieza National Park (BNP) in northeast Poland. Trophically, this mostly coniferous stand represents one of the poorest habitats of the BNP, and this stand has never been cut. There are few tree species of significance, i.e., Scots pine, Norwa...

Nutrient Dynamics and Decomposition rate of Norway Spruce Needles in Stråsan and Lajim stands

Climate changes due to changes in a habitat leads to differences in the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of leaflitters, which has many effects on the controlling factors of the decomposition process. In the present study, the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of Norway spruce was evaluated for 363 days in the two forestation sites in the natural and foreign habitats, ...

Assessment of Vegetation Temperature Status (VTCI) for monitoring drought in the watershed of Lake Urmia by using MODIS satellite imagery

Continuous decline in Lake Urmia water levels In recent years, the decline of rainfall and river flows and constant droughts has become the main concern of the people and the people. To study climate change and increase of temperature in the catchment area of Lake Urmia, two factors for measuring the temperature and properties of satellite images were used which indicate the importance of lan...

Automated Detection of Forest Gaps in Spruce Dominated Stands Using Canopy Height Models Derived from Stereo Aerial Imagery

Forest gaps are important structural elements in forest ecology to which various conservation-relevant, photophilic species are associated. To automatically map forest gaps and detect their changes over time, we developed a method based on Digital Surface Models (DSM) derived from stereoscopic aerial imagery and a LiDAR-based Digital Elevation Model (LiDAR DEM). Gaps were detected and delineate...
